A barrier-free museum

The Museum of Communication has actively promoted inclusion for many years and proudly carries the “Culture Inclusive” label. Detailed information on accessibility for people with visual, mobility or hearing impairments can be found on the Procap website.

Our exhibition communicators will be happy to assist you on your unaccompanied visit. You might find it helpful to prepare your visit by taking a virtual tour of the Museum first.

Mobility impairment

The Museum of Communication is wheelchair-accessible. People with mobility problems may avail of parking in the forecourt of the museum. Please contact reception in advance at 031 357 55 11.

A wheelchair can be provided if required. It must not be taken off site. It is available at reception on request, booking is not possible.

The various stations of the exhibition are all accessible by wheelchair. Seating is provided in many areas throughout the museum. Portable folding chairs are available from staff.

Visual impairment

Guide dogs are always welcome. Elevator signage in Braille and in embossed print will help you find your way around the museum.

Accompanied visits are available for visually impaired persons. Tactile objects help convey the content. Please book early by calling 031 357 55 55.

Hearing or reading impairment

Guided tours with a sign language interpreter or an FM system can be arranged. Please book early by calling 031 357 55 55.

The different zones of the museum are introduced by means of animated films without language or text. All video stations in the core exhibition include the option of adding subtitles in German, French or English. An audio guide is available for the “Mémoire” section of the exhibition.

Personal assistants

A personal assistant accompanying a disabled person who cannot visit the museum on their own is entitled to free admission. The admission fees for holders of an invalidity card are listed under opening hours and admission fees.
