PTT Archives

The PTT Archives preserve the history (1848-1997) of Swiss Post, Telegraphy and Telephony (PTT) - around 7,500 linear metres of archive and library documents. This makes it the historical corporate archive of Swiss Post and Swisscom, the successor companies to PTT.

The PTT Archives are the specialised scientific archive for postal and telecommunications history in Switzerland. It safeguards the cultural assets of national importance of the former federal enterprise. The holdings of the PTT Archives are subject to the Federal Act on Archiving. More information on the archive's mission and objectives can be found in the mission statement (DE)

The archive database gives you the opportunity to search our collections. The holdings of the PTT archive are arranged according to their origin, i.e. according to the regional division of the PTT and the departments of the central administration and not according to topics. In our special scientific library you will find current and historical publications on mail, telephony, telegraphy and telecommunications. If you have any questions about our holdings, we will be happy to assist you.
