MyMuseum – What should we collect?
Information

The idea behind MyMuseum

Staff at the Museum of Communication collect objects related to the subject of communication on an ongoing basis. It is a subject, however, that we are all experts on; experts with different viewpoints, insights, modes of use and experiences. We now hope to give even more room to all these perspectives by giving other people an opportunity to have a say in what we view as important objects from our time.

Questions that help us to find a suitable object

What objects did you use in the past that have now disappeared? What new objects have come into your life? What objects do you think will disappear again? What objects have changed your habits? What stories are hardly ever told? What changes are you observing? What would you consider an everyday object? How would you like people in 100 years’ time to look back at our time?

How will your contribution be dealt with?

The process is divided into three phases.
PHASE 1: ONLINE
Object proposals are made. In cases where we would not be able to add a proposed object to our collection, for instance owing to a lack of infrastructure, we will be in touch to discuss the possible solutions to the problem.
Hearts are distributed. The 10 ideas that have received the most hearts after a period of one year will proceed to phase 2. All other contributions will remain visible online and get another chance to be selected in one of the later cycles. All contributors will be informed and invited to visit the museum.

PHASE 2: MUSEUM
Museum visitors will vote for the 10 objects using an interactive station called “MyMuseum”. Digital photos of the objects will be on display. Once a year, the top 3 objects will be selected and proceed to phase 3.

PHASE 3: COLLECTION
The top 3 objects from the second round of voting will be included in the permanent collection. They will physically be put on display for a period of one year, where they can be discussed and enhanced with further information and stories.
