The Federal Parliament and the Swiss Telegraph Office had the first experiments with hand telephones carried out at the end of 1877, one year after A.G. Bell had patented his telephone. At the same time 14,000 house telephones were in operation in the USA.

 

From the first telephone to the cell phone

From the first telephone to the cell phone, from Morse apparatus to fax: the telecommunications collection covers the fields of telegraphy and telephony. Around 7,000 objects document 150 years of the history of telecommunications.

 

Automatic telephone switchboards

The museum owns four automatic telephone switchboards in their original state, which function, so to speak, as on-site branches of the museum.
