Albrecht von Haller - a research project

The Albrecht von Haller research project is a joint project conducted by the University of Berne Institute for the History of Medicine and the Burgerbibliothek, Berne. Since 1991, under the leadership of Professor Urs Boschung, a team of nine has been reconstructing and researching the estate and life of Albrecht von Haller.
In early 2002, the "Repertorium der Korrespondenz Albrecht von Hallers" will appear, followed in 2003 by a comprehensive Haller bibliography, as well as a volume analysing Haller's correspondence.
The research project has received support from the Swiss National Fund, the Albrecht von Haller Foundation of the Community of Berne, and other donors.

Haller database
The exhibition allows you to look things up in the Haller database, the centrepiece of the research project. There you will find
- the places of origin of around 17†000 letters from and to Haller
- biographical details about the 1200 or so people with whom Haller corresponded
- individual topics from Haller's 1200 sets of correspondence.
The original database may be viewed at the research project on request. This contains additional information about Haller's plant names, and details of where specimens were found.

Haller website
Further wide-ranging information about the life and work of the universal scholar Albrecht von Haller can be found on the Internet at the research project website.
