Conversations from a distance

17'000 letters from the universal scholar Albrecht von Haller
Special exhibition from 4 May 2001 to 24 February 2002

He was one of the first "networkers" – the last universal scholar Albrecht von Haller (1708-1777). This famous Bernese doctor, botanist and poet anticipated 250 years ago what has now become a mass phenomenon: life as part of a network. Living in the 18th century, Haller cultivated a lifestyle which was amazingly modern. Just how modern he was can be seen from our current special exhibition: "Conversations from a distance".
